Egyptian of the Year Awards

Alright people start with your nominees. Just write the name of the person you believe is 2005’s Egyptian of the Year in the comments section and we’ll start a voting round soon. Who is it? Ayman Nour? Ahmed Zewail? The MB? Kefaya? Let it rip.

Personally, my nominee is Mr. Hawass for his continued enrichment of our beautiful country.

I’ll print out a fancy looking award for the winner and send it to him or her with a prize money of one Egyptian Gundi.

We’ll also start an “Egyptian of the Century” soon.

3 - Dr. Hawass tries hard to keep ancient Egypt in Egypt, where it belongs, and not in private collections and museums of other nations. I will not to go a museum to see the heritage of Egypt, but I will go to Egypt to see it when I have the money saved. (Comment this)

5 - Karim,
I'd go with Ayman Nour, not because I like him, but because he became an icon of change and a pioneer in standing up against and challenging the "Pharaoh" of Egypt, Mubarak.

To this day Ayman Nour is reaping sorrow for doing what he did (prison) and IMHO I think every Egyptian should give him credit for it.

To know a culture on its own ground surely is the best way to experience & know more of that civilization.
But museums are also important & their role cannot be undermined.
Isn't it better to see with your own eyes artifacts of ancient times in a Museum rather than read about it in a book or a paper? Not everyone can afford to pay for a holiday to see ancient relics but at least with a museum showing them, it enriches those who go see it. (Comment this)

11 - My position is simple: the cultural heritage that is dug out of the earth must remain with the nation that stands on that earth. People cannot own the heritage of another nation and put it on display in this manner. Your heritage is caged, locked away and guarded and stared at through glass much like animals in a zoo. All artifacts should be returned to Egypt. People can look at pictures and videos if they want to, or travel there to see them in real life. That is all I have to say about it. (Comment this)

many of thos artifacts were handed out by egyptians, as they werent the least interested in them till a sheikh who studied in Paris returned & alerted the people to this heritage. Ofcourse it took decades for them to realise the importance but for museums to give back all these relics isnt going to happen. (Comment this)

14 - Sayyed Qutb

The degradation of man in general in the collectivists regimes [including Nasser's], the injustice suffered by the individuals and people dominated by capital and colonialism, are only the effects of this opposition to the rule of God, the negation of the dignity that God bestowed upon man! (Comment this)

17 - Which one's Mosni?

I can't think of anyone to nominate. There's a guy called 3am 3ata who washes cars and takes care of the building where I work. He's friendly, serene, good at what he does and he has integrity. I'll nominate him, because he is the one Egyptian who has shown me the most good and the least bullshit throughout this past year, and in a way that is concrete and that I can attest to. To the rest nogoom 2005 I say saba7 el fol. (Comment this)
