“Egyptian of the Year” … Ayman Nour

Results are in and crystal clear. Ayman Nour is 2005’s “Egyptian of the Year”. If only he could have mustered the 21% he won here last September.

Ayman Nour

Egyptian of the Year 2005

Here are a couple of posts about him

In Egypt we take our hero’s and through them in jail. Or maybe he is our hero because had the nuts to risk it. If so I’m sure he will consider his 5 year stint a small price to pay for this prize.

As insight commenter AlienKain says of him,

“As if Ayman Nour would be any better, the guy is a flunkie who cant run his own party let alone a country.”

To that I say that sadly in a society that has become so accustomed to dealing with and bearing autocracy on every level it will be very had to establish anything else as it will always be perceived as weakness.

Tying in second place with 9% each is The Egyptian Soccer Team, Noha El-Zeini, and Kefaya

In third with 8%; Nagib Sawiris, Rachid Mohamed Rachid, and The Egyptian Judges.

Tip your hats ladies and gentlemen.

Egyptian of the Century up next.

I made my remark based on what i saw & read about the guy. sure it was refreshing to have a contender but in the course of a few months, he proved to be like Lord Owen of the Liberal democrats in the UK but on a larger scale.
Didnt he first start out as a Liberalist calling for a secular state then he goes & courts the MB for support, then claims that the Quran is his charter (??) & follows ibn Hanbal doctrine, one of those views is true while the other is false as both views cannot be true together.
Why the Hanbal doctrine? the most backward & strict doctrine & not Shafei or Hanafi?
Did he mean what he said about Quran as his charter when he first came out as a secular liberal? Will he conclude his economic & foreign policies from it along with the education & housing strategies?
When he came out of prison, he had some support from people but his manner & interviews began to show his lack of qualities as a leader adding to the crises which his own party fell under & allegations tossed by its members.
Sure there are men capable of leading in Egypt, wherever they are,but Ayman nour is not one of them.
